What is NeighborGood?

Why does the world need another not-for-profit organization? Aren’t plenty of great organizations out there already competing for donations and volunteers? Absolutely! So rather than directly provide services to the community, NeighborGood exists to facilitate collaboration between neighborhoods and the communities in which they are embedded to identify and meet needs. NeighborGood’s mission is to mobilize, empower, and resource neighborhoods financially and/or administratively to start initiatives that benefit the schools and/or communities to which they belong.

Mobilize

Let’s break that down. First, NeighborGood helps to mobilize neighborhoods. How many of you can name the six neighbors in the houses next to yours or on the same floor of your apartment building? If you can, you’re already ahead of the game! Congratulations! If not, don’t beat yourself up, because you’re part of the majority in the United States. NeighborGood helps to connect neighbors for a common purpose and cast vision for the collective impact they could have.

Empower

Second, NeighborGood empowers neighborhoods to have a positive impact on local schools and in their local communities. NeighborGood provides information, tools, and training to build relationships with key community influencers, identify needs, and take tangible steps to meet specific needs. For an example of this, read about the Jacob’s Farm Charity Fun Run.

Resource

Third, NeighborGood resources neighborhoods to do this by providing financial and administrative assistance. Most Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs) are not designed to consider needs outside of the residents and lack the funds or organizational structure to contribute positively to the broader community. Neighborhoods without HOAs have even less structure to facilitate this. NeighborGood fills these gaps to maximize the neighborhood’s impact in the community.
